They are in a similar mould like last season and they have a target now, which is to get out of the relegation zone as soon as possible.

However an improved performance saw them earn a goal-less draw at Deportivo La Coruna in their second fixture. The positive this time is that they have come out with a clean sheet.

Granada vs Eibar

Granada are looking for the first win of the season after managing a draw from their two fixtures so far. After a hard earned 1-1 home draw against Villarreal, Granada were thrashed 5-1 by the impressive Las Palmas at the Gran Canaria. The main problem for Granada is that they have almost a new squad. They were one of the busiest teams in the transfer market this summer adding at least 15 new players to their ranks. But Jose Luis Mendilibar will be eager to add another win to their tally, especially when facing a team that haven’t defeat them in 4 meetings.

Israel’s World Cup qualifiers will start with a hard task as they host Italy at Sammy Ofer Stadium Haifa. They will need a miracle to withstand the Italians.

Meanwhile Italy will enter this game from a 3-1 home defeat against France, they were humiliated by France at home. Anthony Martial opened the scoring in 17th minute, but Pelle equalised in the 21st minute. Arsenal’s Giroud scored the second goal in the 28th minute, while Kurzawa scored the final goal in the 81st minute. Dijon vs Lyon

Dijon comes from another 1:0 narrow loss, this time away to Lille last weekend. Their opponents were slightly better for the whole game, created more dangerous situations, while the visiting side failed to resists in last moments of the game conceding a goal in 87th minute via Sankhare. Overall, it was a deserved victory for Lille, but the players of Dijon were so close of getting their first point this season.

Similar performance was seen in the first round when they suffered the same defeat, this time at home against Nantes, with the visitors getting what they wanted (scored a goal) in the second halftime and the players of Dijon were unable to respond. Maybe even more worrying than two defeats, is the fact that they didn’t do much positive things in attack and surely can go on like this. After two rounds played, they are between four teams which didn’t manage to get a point for now.

Home side should be lined up in 4-4-2 formation with Tavares and Bahamboula as their forwards. Central midfielder Marvin Martin is still injured and will not be rushed into action ahead of the international break. Left back/midfielder Arnol Bouka Moutou could be back into action here, but for now remains doubtful. Midfielder Anthony Belmonte is also questionable ahead the game.


After quite powerless performance in the Super Cup game against PSG when Lyon suffered 4:1 defeat, the team reacted well at started the new season in a really good way – with two consecutive victories and quite determined and strong performances. After their 3:0 victory away to Nancy in the season opener, Lyon managed to get comfortable 2:0 home victory last weekend against Caen.

Interesting is that both goals came from penalty spots taken by Lacazette who already has netted five goals (all three against Nancy as well), but the victory itself was more than deserved since the player from Lyon dominated the field from the first moment and looked simply a class above their opponents. Lyon is now first at standings together with PSG and Nice and in case of another victory, there’s no doubt that they would improve their atmosphere, but also bring some pressure on their biggest rivals.

Lyon will continue in 4-3-3 formation with Cornet and Fekir on the wings and Lacazette as central striker. Offensive midfielder Rachid Ghezzal is only injury absentee for the visiting team as he still recovers from muscular injury. Full backs Christophe Jallet and Jeremy Morel have both returned to training session, but Maciej Rybus and Rafael seem to be working well for now at these positions.

    Lyon have scored at least 2 goals in 11 of their last 13 matches (Ligue 1).

Dijon didn’t show anything impressive for now, as the team looked quite harmless in attack in first two rounds. Having that in mind, it will be really hard for them to get something against obviously well in-form Lyon. Lacazette is doing just fine for now, scoring five goals in only two league matches and he, himself is more dangerous than the whole home side.

Brondby vs Panathinaikos

Brondby will face Panathinaikos in the second leg of the Europa League Play off. The Greeks have won the first leg with 3-0 after dominating all game, however their victory is rather circumstantial as Brondby played in 9 men after receiving 2 red cards, first in the 33rd minute. Brondby tried to limit the score defending most of the game but they made also a penalty and in the end received another goal. Frustrating match for an offensive team who is having a good start of the season in Denmark, being 1st with 4 wins and 2 draws, scoring 22 goals in 6 matches.


Brondby has defeated Scottish side Hibernian on penalties and then showed their strength against Herta Berlin managing to qualify at home after a stunning 3-1 (0-1 in the first leg) having all 3 goals scored in minute 52. That should be impressive. Last round in domestic league they have scored 7 goals in a win against Aarhus, even if their opponent was a weak one, they proved to have a tremendous offensive appetite. They have the Finnish striker Pukki in great form scoring 8 goals in 6 matches in the Superliga and also a hat-trick against Hertha Berlin.


Panathinaikos on the other hand will come in Denmark full of confidence after the first leg and I think it's quite logic that they will rather play defensive and trying to score on the counter. The same strategy worked just fine againt AIK giving them a double win with the Swedish side 3-0 on aggregate. They have good players up-front like Ibarbo, Berg, Wackaso and also the experienced midfielder Ledesma, the former Lazio player.


The Greeks have built a competitive team after a few struggling seasons due to the financial problems they had. It is likely to qualify here but even behind that comforting 3-0 advantage I don't think it will be easy as the Danish will fight until the end.


The championship in Greece has not started yet so the visitors may not have yet the best fitness and since I am expecting a nothing or all approach by the hosts I see them ahead of a tough game.


Scoring 3 against Hertha should keep the hopes alive for the hosts today and I see them score at least 2 goals. It will be hard to qualify but I trust them to make a good game. I see value in Brondby -1 AH.

Manchester City vs Steaua

Manchester City didn’t have very difficult job in the first leg of play-off round against Steaua last Wednesday evening, as the Citizens took impressive 5:0 victory and there’s no doubt that they will be playing in the group stage of this competition this season.

It was quite an easy game for the Citizens, who even missed two penalties during the first halftime, so the final result could have been even more in their favor. Silva, Nolito and Aguero seem to be working just fine, especially the third one who scored three goals, despite the fact that he was the one who missed the penalty kicks. Furthermore, they come from a 4:1 victory away to Stoke in Premier League last weekend, opening the season in a best possible way after their 2:1 victory over Sunderland week earlier. Aguero and Nolito scored both two each, showing their class early in August.

Central defender Vincent Kompany remains sidelined from the start of the season, as well as German duo midfielders Leroy Sane and Ilkay Gundogan, both without making a debut in the new season too. Right full back Bacary Sagna (1/0) should also be unavailable for this one as the game comes too soon for him.


Steaua already knows that they’ll need to get satisfied with a position in Europa League group stage after their bit disappointing performance seven days ago and five goals conceded in front of own fans. Nobody expected them to progress this time, however a bit better performance and more narrow result for the Romanian side were certainly expected.

At the same time, nobody will be very disappointed for a long time following such a score, since it wasn’t expected for them to have a real chance of progressing further. The team already had a domestic league game against Dinamo Bucuresti four days ago taking only a point in a 1:1 draw at home. After this result, they continued being second at the table, with a point less than Dinamo and a point more than Pandurii. There’s no doubt that the club already thinks more of their next domestic league games, but still wants improvement for the returning leg as well.

Same rotation is possible since the outcome is well known, while the team still needs to find their fluid performances and the coach needs to find out his best starting lineup for much more important games. Defender Filip Lucian continues to be injured without performing so far in the season. Defensive midfielder Mihai Pintilii (2/0), central defender Alin Tosca (3/0) and striker Bojan Golubovic (1/0) should not be playing due injuries. Offensive midfielders William (1/1), midfielders Fernando Boldrin (1/0) and Florin Tanase (2/1) are all cup-tied.

Even though the Citizens might appear in a bit more rotated squad here since the outcome is already known, I expect every single player of their to give his 100% in order to get another victory and present themselves in as good as possible image. Steaua is far below their quality and players who should aim to give their best in order to keep close to the starting lineup should prevail here with ease, once again.

These odds are crazy in my mind and I expect André to be smart enough to trick the Liverpool defense not really impressive and not really organised (in my mind of course).

There was a coach change in Malaga, Javi Gracia moved to Rubin and he has been replaced by Juande Ramos. Andalusians enjoyed a pretty good pre-season and they look well-prepared. There are 7 new players in the team, most of the new signings look promising. Midfielder Camacho is doubtful for this game, but in general hosts have no big problems.


Osasuna are newcomers, they look weak on paper. Osasuna had pretty bad pre-season, losing many games. In their final test match last week they have suffered from 1:5 loss to Rayo. Talented midfielder Merino left the club and moved to Borussia Dortmund. Best player of previous season, offensive midfielder Roberto Torres (12 goals, 11 assists last term) is injured.

Chelsea against Man Utd in the premier league. Chelsea are still not convincing amidst the change of manager. The only tag I can remember clearly is that they are still unbeaten under Guus Hiddink. They are coming from a goalless draw against Watford and I think the blues are not far from waiting for the end of the season and as well a possible FA cup trophy although they have now being paired with man city which is obviously going to be an uneasy tie for them. They are 13th on the log and I think its going to take a long time for them to get into the top half of the table if they would.


Man Utd on the other hand seem to be improving game after game since the return of W.Rooney to scoring form. He is starting to pay off the faith the manager has in him as he has now scored in 5 of Utd's last 6 games in all comps. Utd's chances of a top 4 finish is pretty much blinking as Spurs are unwilling to let go of the 4th position and are even climbing higher on the table with every win recorded. Utd are 5th with a hope of Europa league football next season and would certainly love to win here to stand a chance of making it to the champions league next season in case any of Man city, Arsenal or Spurs suffer a bad run. Schweinstiger, luke shaw, Ashley young, valencia are all in the treatment room although the manager confirmed they are making progress in their recovery.


Looking at these two teams, its a struggle to separate them. Sure man utd doesn't have the best of record against chelsea in recent years as they are yet to win them in their last 9 meetings across all competitions including a 0-0 draw at old trafford this season. Chelsea are favorites no doubt but not at 2.15 for IMO. I am not so convinced utd can win this so I will stick with the draw here. A double chance on Utd is not bad as well GL.
