Dijon vs Lyon

Dijon comes from another 1:0 narrow loss, this time away to Lille last weekend. Their opponents were slightly better for the whole game, created more dangerous situations, while the visiting side failed to resists in last moments of the game conceding a goal in 87th minute via Sankhare. Overall, it was a deserved victory for Lille, but the players of Dijon were so close of getting their first point this season.

Similar performance was seen in the first round when they suffered the same defeat, this time at home against Nantes, with the visitors getting what they wanted (scored a goal) in the second halftime and the players of Dijon were unable to respond. Maybe even more worrying than two defeats, is the fact that they didn’t do much positive things in attack and surely can go on like this. After two rounds played, they are between four teams which didn’t manage to get a point for now.

Home side should be lined up in 4-4-2 formation with Tavares and Bahamboula as their forwards. Central midfielder Marvin Martin is still injured and will not be rushed into action ahead of the international break. Left back/midfielder Arnol Bouka Moutou could be back into action here, but for now remains doubtful. Midfielder Anthony Belmonte is also questionable ahead the game.


After quite powerless performance in the Super Cup game against PSG when Lyon suffered 4:1 defeat, the team reacted well at started the new season in a really good way – with two consecutive victories and quite determined and strong performances. After their 3:0 victory away to Nancy in the season opener, Lyon managed to get comfortable 2:0 home victory last weekend against Caen.

Interesting is that both goals came from penalty spots taken by Lacazette who already has netted five goals (all three against Nancy as well), but the victory itself was more than deserved since the player from Lyon dominated the field from the first moment and looked simply a class above their opponents. Lyon is now first at standings together with PSG and Nice and in case of another victory, there’s no doubt that they would improve their atmosphere, but also bring some pressure on their biggest rivals.

Lyon will continue in 4-3-3 formation with Cornet and Fekir on the wings and Lacazette as central striker. Offensive midfielder Rachid Ghezzal is only injury absentee for the visiting team as he still recovers from muscular injury. Full backs Christophe Jallet and Jeremy Morel have both returned to training session, but Maciej Rybus and Rafael seem to be working well for now at these positions.

    Lyon have scored at least 2 goals in 11 of their last 13 matches (Ligue 1).

Dijon didn’t show anything impressive for now, as the team looked quite harmless in attack in first two rounds. Having that in mind, it will be really hard for them to get something against obviously well in-form Lyon. Lacazette is doing just fine for now, scoring five goals in only two league matches and he, himself is more dangerous than the whole home side.
